I’ve always had a passion for motorbikes. There’s something about the combination of precision, engineering, and raw freedom that’s endlessly fascinating. But over the years, my interest grew beyond the mechanics or the ride — I became increasingly curious about the materials that make the ride what it is.
As a mechanical engineer, I used to be focused on metals like steel, aluminium, and even titanium.
But I started asking myself: What gives a bike more strength without adding weight — or even reducing it? What makes it agile yet durable, fast yet stable?
That curiosity eventually led me to composites — and it completely changed the way I think about performance, design, and even sustainability.
At SFG Composites, we work across a wide range of composite manufacturing technologies and materials, but my personal area of expertise is SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) production and molding. SMC offers an exceptional combination of strength, low weight, and design flexibility — making it ideal for scalable, repeatable production of durable composite parts.
On the racetrack, SMC parts are easy to repair after a slide, without losing stability. They also have an outstanding lifespan and can be recycled.
